This is the board I used for a motor driver, using TIP120 drivers.  A basic schematic is here

 

             

This is the stepper control board I created for running the driver board.  It uses 3 EDE-1200 chips and 3 4Mhz ceramic resonators.  They are available at All Electronics

It is all powered by an old ATX computer power supply

This is my Z axis which uses a stepper from an old 1.2M floppy drive

  

Here is my X axis which is a carriage and lead screw assembly from an old printer.

My Y axis is chain driven and the guides are integrated with the frame assembly.  The guide roller assy is built with aluminum plate and sliding glass door rails
